This past winter one of the coldest winters in US history, I might add I filmed 8 episodes of a new survival show called Fat Guys in the Woods. In the show, I take 3 different guys each week deep into the wilderness to prove that if they can survive a week in the woods with me, then they can do anything they put their minds to when they get back home. I literally take three guys off the couch and into the weather for a week with practically nothing but a knife and a canteen.
It gets crazy real quick after that. Seeing that it was one of the coldest winters on record, shelter became our 1 survival priority week after week. We built all different types of shelters to take refuge from the snow, sleet, rain, wind, and bitter cold temperatures. Below are two different shelters we built in two of the episodes: The first is a wigwam-style shelter that we constructed in the middle of a mountain laurel thicket for protection from the wind.
This one needed a raging fire out front to keep us warm. The second is a wiki-up-style shelter with an internal fire ring. Remember the polar vortex this past winter? Well, myself and three other guys were in that wiki-up during that bitter, bitter, bitter cold week. It was more like spooning, shivering, and waiting until day-break and was absolutely brutal.
In all but one episode, we built a group survival shelter similar to one of the styles above.

But average is a dangerous word. New research today shows the devil is in the detail, and the direction in which you go. By anybody’s reckoning, that’s a good saving for only five minutes more.
Red Seal Commander Thats no where near all of them, just some of them. Lets take a look at some – Homestead: Some of the old Legitimus labels had spectacular graphics, raised lettering, colors, etc. This helped the buyer know it was indeed a true Collins. Hell it even had the signature of Sam Collins on it – Obviously with an axe company this big – they had to think about handles. They made their own to meet their demand and specifications – this was not uncommon in axe manufacturing, but Collins did it perhaps as well as any other manufacturer – Collins also as stated above was a major player in the world market.
The sold axes, knives, machetes all around the globe, but had a heavy influence in Mexico and South America especially. So, with that, they had to make axes especially for that market – Notice the paper label – it is in spanish. They produced these labels in english, spanish, portugese, and I believe what is known as mexican spanish, if there is indeed truly such a thing.
I would guess this would be to reach out to local areas as needed. Also notice the axes themselves, and how they differed from the conventional american felling axe – no poll to speak of. Pattern wise they made everything and anything it seems to meet and fit the needs of the buyer – Undercutter – Hewing – And then even for the tobacco market – Their presence in the axe world is undeniable as stated.
They recognized early on the importance of the best advertising, which is word of mouth.

Last November, Mr Austin had told his family he was heading north to live rough off the land – something for which survival expert Bear Grylls above has become famous She said:

Swedish hand-forged with an American hickory handle. The best way to group the Swedish axe models, in my mind, is by size from smallest to largest. Further, I decided to use the discontinued Wetterlings models as the categories. Each section presents a Wetterlings model along with a description of its size and intended use. From there, you can see equivalent Swedish axe models from other Swedish axe brands. Hults Bruk and Hultafors both have two lines, a premium line and a standard line.
These are noted in the charts. None of the axe makers provide complete specs, especially Hultafors and Husqvara.

Posted on March 23, by jgrayston During the first weekend of March I took a group of Youth at Risk to Asessippi Ski Resort to offer these inner city kids a taste of the outdoors, part of our adventure was lunch with Colin Frey from Renewed by Nature, our challenge was to build a fire to heat up our lunch. Colin showed the kids what type and how much material would be ideal to get a fire going quickly, once the kindling and firewood was gathered, it was time to put the materials down in the correct order, in this case we built an upside down fire, starting with the largest materials on the bottom and then piling on small and smaller materials on top.
Colin also demonstrated how to make a feather stick just make sure that the fire would start quickly. Once all the materials were set it was time to light it up! However we had no matches, no worries, Colin had the ideal piece of kit to get it going, a strike anywhere fire starter, with the kindling set Colin explained how the Firestarter worked and then with one pass and one spark we had a roaring fire!
Now that the fire it was time to cook up lunch, we had a large pot of soup but no way to heat it! So once again Colin to the rescue, he instructed the kids once again on the suitable materials to collect and once they had everything we needed, we set out to build a tripod complete with a pot hanger and before you know it the kids were feeding away on hot soup and bannock!

Henry Cowell composed a composition for two violins, viola, two celli, and two bullroarers. Bullroarers are considered secret men’s business by some Aboriginal tribal groups, and hence forbidden for women, children, non-initiated men, or outsiders to even hear. Fison and Howitt documented this in “Kamilaroi and Kurnai” page Anyone caught breaching the imposed secrecy was to be punished by death. They are used in men’s initiation ceremonies, and the sound they produce is considered in some indigenous cultures to represent the sound of the Rainbow Serpent [ citation needed ].
In the cultures of southeastern Australia, the sound of the bullroarer is the voice of Daramulan , and a successful bullroarer can only be made if it has been cut from a tree containing his spirit.
