Dating a Divorced Man

Almost a year ago I started dating a minister at my church. We spent almost every day together. We talked day and night and had a great connection. We were like glue. A few months ago a young lady starting attending our church and she was always speaking to him, but he never changed. Well, she joined the church. He and I still communicate daily and I understand right now that he has been busy with his new church, for the fact that I help out there sometimes because my grandfather was the pastor before him and he had retired. My main question is should I stay with him or leave him alone just because this young lady has appeared?

But for how long has this been the situation? When I was in the eighth grade, I remember it very well; we were assigned to do a written report and in addition to our written report we had to also give a speech in front of our class about a certain topic. My topic had to do with the a few of the different calendars that were in existence in the world.

And worse is coming. They are now protected from any censure or discipline a godly church might attempt to give them,, due to a deletion in the Church Manual voted at Utrecht. As the doctrinal apostasy in our denomination increases, the moral standards continue to be lowered. It should be understood that these changes have frequently been prompted by an interest in keeping wealthy members in the church. But there is also a very definite concern to protect adulterous-minded ministers, who want to have their transgressions overlooked.

More liberal changes in church policies tend to protect church pastors and executives who are involved in extramarital relationships or who want to leave their spouses and remarry. Several times this year, we have discussed official attempts to lower moral standards. Officials went to the Utrecht Session with plans in mind to liberalize the Church Manual The sentence they disliked has been in that guide book for decades, and is found on pages and of the current edition: When a divorce is secured by either spouse, or when both mutually secure a divorce on any ground other than that of–unfaithfulness to the marriage vow, the party or parties securing the divorce shall come under the censure of the church.

That which he asked for was a radical change in the Church Manual. He wanted the church to henceforth no longer censure for any type of divorce! This is equivalent to approving them all!

Anonymous Ahraf, I am also a raving fan of Tony Robbins. I credit his programs and my application of them as the primary reason for the success I’ve enjoyed over the last 20 years. I have to agree with his comments about relationships. Visions, values and attitudes change over time. Some people just grin and bare it, live miserably and nobody wins or grows.

I respect his decision and the courage to take a Giant Step. Take care and be well! At least one expected honesty from a person who teaches so much. I think he as a struggling youngster he was attracted to an older woman and later as a successful person just fell for a younger babe. So much crap doesnt hide whats plain human hormone at work.

Anonymous While I am loathe to comment publicly on folks personal lives no one ever really knows what goes on in another’s marriage , Tony is open to some criticism due to the nature of his image and profession. I am not a huge fan, but have been very positive about him and his work for many years.

I did not know about his divorce and do consider it problematic. I was going to say hypocritical, but in fact, it may actually be consistent with my understanding of his emphasis on the primacy of one’s own lifetime vision versus, say, natural or divine law.

I don’t talk openly about my faith here for two reasons, first I’m not a seminary trained pastor turned rockstar or an enlightened theologian, and second those of us in the flock who try usually end up setting the faith back fifty years.

The debate is nothing new, though it’s been reinvigorated in recent years. Historically, single men predominated. Lately, the pendulum has swung toward marrieds, and some even suggest that singles should not serve as pastors. When I wrote the article, I had served as a single pastor for 19 years—14 as a senior pastor.
